Newborn Session

Unrepeatable memories to cherish.

With each of my Newborn sessions I try to give parents as stress free an experience as possible.

Many of my parents come to me as their first visit out of the home after their babies birth. I pride myself in creating a calm, comfortable atmosphere where parents are able to have just one moment with each other in the knowledge that their baby is being cared for, for a conversation, a cuddle or even a nap on my sofa.

Your experience

Your experience with me begins with a telephone consultation where I gain an understanding of what type of beautiful images you are looking for and for who. Some couple want thank you gifts for family, beautiful wall art for the home, or images for announcement items, what ever you may need I can help.

I then ensure you have all the information you might require for the session so that you feel as relaxed as possible. Then we have the amazing bit, I get to meet you and your amazing new human being and for a few moments you can wrest easy whilst I capture unrepeatable images of you little one.

Around 14 days after the session you will receive an online gallery of beautiful, professionally edited images which I will walk you through on a personalised online session on Zoom or Skype to help you select the very best package and artwork for you. Packages and products start at £125.

When should I reserve my Newborn session?

As soon as possible! I take a limited number of newborn sessions each month so that I can ensure I can fit everybody in and work around midwife and health visitor appointments once baby is here. It’s best to contact me as soon after 22 weeks as possible so that I can schedule a telephone consultation with you to ensure I create images that you love. I ask for a £75.00 booking fee at the time of booking.

How will we know what date to schedule for our newborn session?

Babies tend to come when they wish to so I ensure I have availability no matter what. Once your baby arrives and you have settled back in at home just give me a call or message me and we can then confirm the best date and time for your session. The best ideal time to photograph your baby is around 6-12 days new.

Where do the newborn sessions take place?

Your portrait session will take place in my comfortable purpose designed home studio. Newborn studios are not like traditional photography studios - they are designed around the comfort of your baby. I want you and your baby to feel relaxed and comfortable so you are able to feed on demand and put your feet up with refreshments and a magazine.

(I even have some new Mums and Dads who take a quick nap!)

Is there an option for family photos within the session?

A newborn session focuses on capturing all the beautiful little details of your new baby, as well as capturing the loving bond between parents and baby, and siblings and baby. The amount of family/sibling poses will vary depending on baby’s co-operation and the co-operation of older siblings. Having a new baby in the family can be a big change for an older sibling, and every child handles it differently.

How many images or setups will we get during an average session?

Every baby is different so the amount of photographs we take and the amount of different setups and outfits etc will depend on baby’s co-operation, and his/her need for soothing, feeding and changing and cuddles which I am very ready to give. The session may last anywhere from 2-3 hours, allowing plenty of time for comforting and feeding. throughout the session which is baby led rather than photographer led! there are any particular setup you have seen in my work you would like to request please note this when contacting me.

What can I expect at my session?

You can expect a memorable experience filled with relaxation and memories. You will feel comfortable knowing that your newborn is in the hands of a skilled professional that has worked with numerous newborns and that all images are captured with newborn safety techniques.

You will have a patient photographer who pays close attention to each and every tiny detail, and one who is extremely passionate about what she does. You will never feel rushed, and you may even make a friend, you’ll continue to stay in touch with long after your session!

What will I need for my newborn session, and what should I wear?

So that I can capture your baby perfectly while they are still so brand new, for most of the session your baby will be in their birthday suit. Newborn clothes never fit correctly so we don’t get to see all those beautiful details that say ‘hey I’m brand new!’

However, one of the downsides of this, is your baby is guaranteed to poop and/or pee on props, blankets, perhaps even me or you! This is just part of the course, something I’m used to dealing with on a daily basis and something I allow for. All of my blankets and props are washed after each session and I have plenty of cloths and towels to hand. You might want to pop a change of clothes for yourself into your changing bag, just incase the worse happens.

Everything you will need to know to prepare for your session, including ideas on what to wear and what to bring, will be sent to you as soon as you reserve your photography session.

Are props available or do I need my own?

At this time I have a select amount of props as my style is very natural, fresh and authentic. I do use some headbands, and baskets, however I am very careful that I only use things that compliment a babies natural beauty and does not become the main focus of an image.

If you have something you would like me to include in your session I am happy to discuss. Please note any particular items on your contact form.

When will my images be available for viewing?

My average turn around for proof images is 14 days from the session.

Will I receive copies of the proofs?

Your proofs will be presented in a private, password protected online gallery.

When will I receive my order?

Once you have chosen the images you would like from your gallery and any products, an invoice is then sent to you. Once payment is received you can expect to receive the final images for download within 2 weeks. If products are ordered these may take longer for production, and delivery time may vary during busy seasons and holidays.

The diary of a newborn and baby photographer is a complicated place! Nobody told your baby that they are expected to turn up for their portrait session and while some can’t wait to get here, some are fashionably late. This makes my diary a wonderfully fluid place!

What amenities do you have at your home studion?

Below is a snap shot of the amenities available at my Newborn sessions: - A warm, welcome from me to my home - An inviting studio space with professional equipment, lighting and selection of props - Off street parking (always useful when lifting weighty car seats in and out) - Bottles of water (we all know parenting and feeding our little ones is thirsty work) PLEASE NOTE - Due to COVID-19 I am unable to offer any beverages at this time, however please feel free to bring your own drinks and snacks. - Changing facilities - Access to private feeding area if required - All the usual kitchen facilities required for feeding - Seating - Access to wifi so you can catch up on things while I entertain your little one for a few hours - Access to a three seater sofa for those parents who simply need to lie down
